How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Match courts with certified interpreters for gigs and bookings.
- Process bookings, payments, and payouts.
- Communicate with you about gigs, account changes, security alerts, and platform updates.
- Verify interpreter credentials and certifications.
- Detect fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, and protect the integrity of the marketplace.
- Improve the platform through aggregated analytics and product research.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
Information Sharing
CourtLingual shares information only as needed to operate the marketplace and provide the services you request:
- With courts: when a booking is confirmed, we share the assigned interpreter's name, contact details, certification, and any pre-gig notes the interpreter provides.
- With interpreters: when an interpreter is matched to a gig, we share the court's organization name, contact details, scheduling information, and gig requirements.
- Service providers: vetted vendors that help us run the platform (payment processing, email delivery, cloud hosting, analytics, credential storage) receive only the data they need to perform their function and are contractually obligated to protect it.
- Legal and safety: when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with a law, court order, valid subpoena, or to protect the safety of any person.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share personal data with third parties for their own advertising or marketing purposes.
Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for a defined period afterward to satisfy legal, tax, and operational obligations:
- Account data: retained while your account is active and for up to 90 days after deletion to allow recovery. After that window, account data is permanently deleted from production systems.
- Booking and gig records: retained for 7 years from the date of the gig to satisfy recordkeeping, tax, and dispute-resolution needs.
- Certification documents: retained until your certification is verified and, if no longer active on file, for up to 2 years afterward to support re-verification and audit requests.
- Backups: encrypted backups are retained for a rolling 35-day window and then purged.
Security
We protect personal data with industry-standard safeguards designed for the sensitivity of court-justice workflows:
- In transit: all traffic between your browser or device and our servers is encrypted with TLS 1.2 or higher.
- At rest: sensitive data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 in our managed database and object stores.
- Access controls: employee access is gated by role-based permissions, audited quarterly, and enforces least-privilege.
- Monitoring: we continuously monitor for anomalous activity, run periodic vulnerability scans, and conduct annual third-party security reviews.
- Passwords: stored as salted, one-way hashes using modern algorithms; we never store plain-text passwords.
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact security@courtlingual.com immediately.
Cookies and Analytics
CourtLingual uses cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the platform is used:
- Session cookies: required to keep you signed in and protect against cross-site request forgery. Disabling these in your browser will prevent sign-in.
- Product analytics (PostHog): aggregated, pseudonymous usage data to help us identify confusing flows and prioritize improvements. You may opt out via the in-app cookie banner or by emailing privacy@courtlingual.com.
- Infrastructure monitoring (Datadog): server-side logs used to detect outages, latency spikes, and security events. These logs contain limited request metadata and are retained for up to 30 days.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you have some or all of the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to fix inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion: request that we delete your personal data, subject to the retention rules above.
- Export: receive a portable copy of your account data in a common machine-readable format.
- Objection: object to processing that we perform on the basis of our legitimate interests.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@courtlingual.com from the address on your account. We respond within 30 days.
